Beer Review: Mt. Carmel Third Shift Imperial Coffee Stout

I’ve been interested in trying this beer for sometime, especially since deciding that this winter was gonna focus on stouts and porters. After digging into the Mt. Carmel Porch Pack again then seeing this was on the Growler Station at the Whole Foods in Mason I decided it was time to try this beer. This is part of their “limited” series that is only available on draft and is supposedly temporary though this has been around for a long time.

Beer Review: Mt. Carmel Amber Ale

The Amber Ale is my second beer from Mt. Carmel’s Porch Pack. Earlier this week I reviewed their India Pale Ale and their Blonde and Nut Brown Ales will be coming later this week or next. I’ve always been a fan of beers brewed with a red hue and while this one doesn’t excite, it also doesn’t disappoint.

Beer Review: Mt. Carmel IPA

With some family in town I picked up a Mt. Carmel Porch Pack.  The Porch Pack is Mt. Carmel’s 12-pack style sampler containing the IPA, Nut Brown Ale, Blonde Ale, and Amber Ale. By the by I think Porch Pack is a great name for a 12-pack as opposed to ya-know a 12-pack. Mt. Carmel also has a whole “porch” thing like porch sitting at the brewery and other porch related events. Having a brewery at a farm house had certain advantages, like porches.

Beer Review: Rivertown’s Ville De Rivere Geuze

Fancy name for a fancy style of beer. The style is a blending of 2+ lambics of different vintages. In this case Rivertown blended a 1-year old lambic with a 3-year old lambic, which is slightly curious because Rivertown’s barely been open for 3 years. So this 3-year old lambic must be from their first batch or something like that, kinda cool. Something else before moving onto the beer is that Rivertown is spelling it geuze whereas everyone else spells it gueuze. Hopefully one of the guys from Rivertown will drop a comment about why they choose to spell it that way or if it’s just a typo on the packaging.

Beer Review: Oskar Blues Deviant Dale’s India Pale Ale

Oskar Blues knows how to make an entrance! 50+ events over 2 weeks plus hooking us up with some samples! Oskar Blues was kind enough to hook Josh up and he was kind enough to share, so look forward to reviews of Dales Pale Ale, Mama’s Little Yellow Pils, and Old Chub Scotch Ale. I also previously reviewed G’Knight Imperial Red, which I scored last time I was in Nashville, and I loved it! As far as I know all Oskar Blues beer are available in Cinci now except for Ten FIDY, their stout, which should be here in one or two weeks. Tonight I’m checking out Deviant Dale’s India Pale Ale, which I had a few months ago but decided not to give it a full review because it wasn’t available around here. Now that that’s changed let’s get drinking!

Know your local brewery: Rivertown

I’m beginning what will hopefully be a long series of interviews with local area brewers. My goal is to interview the head brewers/owners at all the local area breweries and provide general information about those breweries. Lots of interviews I see with them are just about specific seasonals or events. In this interview and those that follow I intend to get the basics of what the company is about and where it’s headed.
